The University of Northern Colorado Department of Athletics announced its Student-Athletes of the Month award for November on Tuesday. Freshman swimming student-athlete Nan Liu (Dailan, China/Dailan HS) was the female award recipient, while wrestling student-athlete Kyle Kaiser (Fort Morgan, Colo./Fort Morgan HS) won honors for men's sports.

Liu has already rewritten the school's record book, and in the process has led the swimming and diving team to wins in each of their seven duals in the month of November. The program's first ever swimmer from China, Liu broke three school records in November and three more at the House of Champions Invitational December 1-2.
She opened the month by breaking the school's 100 butterfly record, as the team defeated New Mexico State in a home dual, and followed that by breaking her own 200 butterfly record at a weekend meet against South Dakota State and Northern Iowa in which the Bears won four times.
In her final dual meet of the month, Liu set the record in the 100 backstroke as Northern Colorado defeated Metro State and the Colorado club team at home. In the House of Champions Invitational, held in Indianapolis, Liu broke each of the three records she set in November. She now sits atop the school's record books in the 100 fly (55.09), 200 fly (2:01.76) and the 100 back (55.96).
Kaiser was the team's most successful wrestler in the program's first month of competition this year, opening the season with a second-place finish in his 133 weight class at the University of Wyoming Cowboy Open. In Laramie, Kaiser defeated Nebraska's Patrick Aleksanyan 4-3 in his first match, and followed that with a pin (:57) of Colorado State's Matt Graham on his way to the championship match.

The redshirt junior followed that up by winning his weight class at the University of Northern Colorado/Old Chicago Open. He was able to get a 4-0 pin in his first match and claim the 133-pound title with a closely contested 9-8 battle against Fort Hays State's Jeff Annon.
The Student-Athlete of the Month program is designed to recognize the athletic accomplishments of Northern Colorado student-athletes.
