Travel Guidelines

Student-athlete welfare and safety are of the utmost concern to the Department of Athletics. The following travel policies and guidelines are in effect as evidence that programs have been put into place that protect the health of, and provide a safe environment for student-athletes and staff:

  • Each team has standards for team conduct while traveling. Specific requirements for dress, individual conduct, curfews, and free-time activities will be distributed in writing by the head coach to the student-athletes.

  • Student-athletes must stay with the team at all times of the trip, starting at departure from Greeley and return to Greeley.

  • The consumption/use and/or possession of alcohol or illegal drugs while traveling as a representative of UNC is strictly prohibited. This policy applies from the time the student-athlete boards transportation provided by the University, throughout the trip, until the student-athlete disembarks University transportation back at home.

    FOOD AND LODGING

  • Each student-athlete should have his/her own bed (roll-a-ways and pull-out couches may be used).

  • Student-athletes may not share hotel rooms with staff members, including but not limited to: coaches, administrators, athletic trainers, graduate assistants, and student-athletic trainers.

  • Staff and student-athletes are allotted $25/day in meals or per diem. All members of the travel party must sign for the exact amount of cash and number of meals received on the Per Diem Form. Never sign a blank form.

    TRANSPORTATION

  • All transportation providers must meet federal and state requirements for certification, insurance and safety.

  • Student-athletes are not permitted to drive personal vehicles or ride with a friend or relative to airports and/or away competition sites. Student-athletes are also not allowed to drive rental vehicles.

  • Seat belts are required of all drivers and passengers for all university approved travel.

  • The use of fifteen passenger vans is prohibited.

  • In order to ensure safety while driving vans or sedans, travel should end by 2:00 AM at the latest.

    CLASS ABSENCE

  • Every effort will be made to minimize class absences when preparing competition and travel schedules, paying special attention to final exam periods.

  • During the first few weeks of school (before the drop/add deadline), a missed class letter will be provided to each student-athlete. These letters are to be presented to each professor and discussed.

  • Prior to departure for team travel, student-athletes are expected to discuss competition schedules with professors again and make arrangements for completing missed assignments due to absences.
